KU Students Excel in Math Competitions
LAWRENCE — University of Kansas students have tested their mathematical prowess at local, state and national events.
KU Math Prize Competition
The 41st annual event, sponsored by the Department of Mathematics, took place in March. Open to all KU undergraduates, the written exam for each level covered six questions to be completed in three hours. Cash awards were presented to the top three winners at both levels.
The junior level was open to all undergraduates of non-senior standing and assumes a knowledge of first-year calculus. The winners of the junior level:

Emily Witt Wins Michler Prize
LAWRENCE—Emily Witt, associate professor of mathematics, has been awarded the 2022-2023 Ruth I. Michler Memorial Prize from the Association of Women in Mathematics and Cornell University.
Faculty and Staff Recognized for Years of Service
Each year KU holds an Employee Recognition Ceremony to honor faculty and staff for their years of service. Service pins are awarded and employees who have been here for more than twenty years receive a gift. The recognition ceremony was held May 10, 2022.
Frier and Zhang Receive Summer Research Scholarships
Ryan Frier and Jinjin Zhang both received a 2022 Summer Research Scholarship from the KU Office of Graduate Studies. The award comes with a stipend of $6,000.
