KU Department of Mathematics will host 2 conferences
LAWRENCE — The Department of Mathematics at the University of Kansas is hosting two research conferences in October focusing on commutative algebra and analysis, featuring notable scholars from the Midwest and across the nation.
Participants are invited from the Midwest region. In addition to invited speakers, graduate student participants have the opportunity to give contributed talks and present posters.
KUMUNU 2026 Commutative Algebra
The first event is the KUMUNU 2026 Commutative Algebra conference, which will take place Oct. 10-11. KUMUNU, which is named for its original participating institutions (KU, the University of Missouri–Columbia and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln), has been an annual conference for commutative algebraists in the Great Plains region since 1999. The goal of KUMUNU is to provide a setting to share cutting-edge mathematical research and promote collaborations among algebraists in or within driving distance of the Great Plains region.
Invited speakers include Rahul Ajit, KU; Dale Cutkosk, University of Missouri; Tom Marley, University of Nebraska; Prashanth Sridhar, University of Alabama; Olivia Strahan, University of New Mexico, and Keller VandeBogert, University of Kentucky.
Daniel Hernández, professor of mathematics, and Reuven Hodges, assistant professor of mathematics, are the conference organizers. Registration is closed. Contact Gloria Prothe, local coordinator, at gprothe@ku.edu for more information.
Prairie Analysis Seminar 2026
The second conference is the Prairie Analysis Seminar, which will take place Oct. 30-31. This seminar is the 22nd in a sequence of yearly analysis meetings organized each fall by the departments of Mathematics at Kansas State University and KU, and the goal is to provide an opportunity for scientific exchange and cooperation among analysts.
Irena Lasiecka, University of Memphis, will be the principal lecturer. Invited speakers include Roberto Triggiani, University of Memphis, and Türker Özsari, Bilkent University.
Dionyssis Mantzavinos, professor of mathematics, and Shuanglin Shao, associate professor of mathematics, are the conference organizers. Registration is still open.
These conferences are supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and from funds from the Department of Mathematics and the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Research Excellence Initiative.
