Gateway: Exam Overview

The Gateway Exam is a test of skills that are important to the math class you are taking.

Students in MATH 115/125/145 must correctly answer 8 out of the 10 questions to pass the exam.
Students in MATH 104 must correctly answer 7 out of the 10 questions to pass the exam.
There are deadlines, but you can take the exam as many times as you need to before the deadline. Be sure to start early so you don't run out of time!

The Gateway Exam has two goals: to test a particular skill from the course you are taking, and to have you begin to interact successfully with computers in a mathematical way.

There is a lot of information you will need in this guide — please read it so you will know what's going on. If you need help at any point in the process, you can get in touch with the Gateway Team at Tell us your name, your KU ID#, and your problem or question. Please get in touch with us as soon as you have problems — we can find solutions for any issue you might be having, but you have to tell us about it. Once a deadline has passed there's very little we can do, so talk to us early!

The Gateway Team and your instructors will send out a small number of email reminders throughout the course of the semester. Make sure you check your registered KU email account regularly.

Good luck!
