Avary Kolasinski Wins Best Poster Award at SIAM Conference

LAWRENCE—Avary Kolasinski, mathematics graduate student, received the best poster award at the SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering held Avary Kolasinski presenting her poster at conferenceFebruary 25-March 1, 2019 at Spokane, WA. Her poster A New Theory for Movement of Surface Meshes was presented at the Minisymposterium: Association for Women Workshop. Her presentation was one of eight awarded best poster out of 214 entries.

Avary is a sixth year Ph.D. student studying under Dr. Weizhang Huang. Her research is in variational mesh adaptation and generation and more recently, her focus has been on a new theory for mesh adaptation on surfaces. Last summer she worked as a graduate research intern at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory studying with Dr. Aly Fox. At the lab she focused on error estimates when using ZFP compression in multigrid methods.
