Cody Clifton Receives Award for Math Matters Contest

LAWRENCE – Cody Clifton, Ph.D. student in mathematics, was awarded third place for his submission "The Math behind Google PageRank" in the Math Matters, Apply It! contest sponsored by the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). The flyer with his entry will be published and posted online in April.

Math Matters, Apply It? is an applied mathematics awareness campaign, created for anyone who wants to know more about the mathematics behind everyday life and the technologies we encounter. Currently, there are thirty-one different PDFs available for download and Cody's flyer will be added to these.

Cody studies stochastic adaptive control of the PageRank algorithm and is advised by Bozenna Pasik-Duncan, professor of mathematics. He received the department's 2014 Florence Black Award for Excellence in Teaching and the university's 2013 Outstanding GTA Award.
