Lawrence, KS – Tyrone Duncan, professor of mathematics, has been selected by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) as the 2013 recipient of the W.T. and Idalia Reid Prize.

First awarded by SIAM in 1994, the prize recognizes outstanding work in, or other contributions to, the broadly defined areas of differential equations and control theory. The prize, endowed by the late Mrs. Idalia Reid to honor her husband, has been awarded annually since 2000, and may be given either for a single notable achievement or a collection of such achievements.

Prof. Duncan is being recognized for his fundamental contributions to nonlinear filtering, stochastic control, and the relation between probability and geometry. The 2013 Reid Prize will be awarded during the SIAM Annual Meeting in July in San Diego. At the Prizes and Awards Luncheon, Duncan will receive an engraved metal and an award of $10,000. He will give the Reid Prize Lecture.
