Careers for Mathematics Majors

A major in mathematics prepares you for a wide range of jobs and careers. To do research in mathematics or teach mathematical sciences at a university, you generally need a doctoral degree. But many people with Bachelors or Masters degrees work in research groups with engineers or scientists. Many software engineers or computer systems specialists entered the field with math degrees. The government hires mathematicians and statisticians. The insurance industry hires math majors for careers in actuarial science. Many math majors go into banking and finance. The logical and analytical skills developed in the math major are attractive to a wide range of employers.
